About Joanne Parkinson

I am a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and also a Community Nurse Prescriber. I qualified as a nurse in 2005, having a varied nursing career. I have been able to expand my knowledge and skills in the following areas: dermatology, community nursing, tissue viability, frailty, and surgical care.

I have been passionate about supporting patients, families, and carers in relation to palliative and end-of-life care and have taken pride in providing patient-centred, holistic care.

I have a particular interest in skin and wound care, of both acute and chronic wounds, and I am grateful for the extended knowledge and skills my role as a tissue viability nurse gave me.

I have always enjoyed mentoring and supporting student nurses within all my clinical areas, and I am excited to continue this journey within academia. I have continued to develop my own knowledge and skills, and have undertaken the mentorship qualification, practice assessor training, community nurse prescribing, clinical skills qualification, and completed an MSc module in dermatology on recognising skin lesions and management.

I am looking forward to supporting students to reach their full potential for a career and lifelong learning and development in nursing, and have an interest in leadership and management and culture in healthcare.

For my own future development, I am particularly interested in women's health and look forward to what this role will enable for my own professional academic growth.
