About Kate Brown
I am the Admissions Tutor and a Senior Lecturer on BSc (Hons) Midwifery.
I am dual qualified, being both a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). I have clinical experience in both in and out of hospital care, predominantly as a midwife in antenatal/postnatal inpatient care.
I took a career break prior to joining the University in 2020, and travelled the world, giving me a rich understanding of global culture. I am passionate about the future of midwifery and look forward to inspiring the next generation of midwives.
Teaching and supervision
I teach BSc (Hons) Midwifery.
I have delivered midwifery theory and practice across a range of other courses, including Medicine and Paramedic Science.
Research
I undertook a master's in midwifery focusing on 'midwives' understanding of perinatal mental health'. This is a subject area I aspire to do further research in with a view to a possible PhD in the future.
