About Kate Newby
I am the Faculty Academic Support Lead for Nursing and Midwifery, Chair of the University of Sunderland Women's Network, a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, and a registered nurse teacher with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
As Faculty Academic Support Lead for Nursing, I am responsible for developing, leading, and evaluating cross-institutional and in-faculty initiatives that improve student success and retention. My passion is for inclusive and accessible educational strategies and authentic assessment.
I have an extensive background in inclusive pedagogies, skills for practice, and work-based learning.
I am currently leading several pedagogic research projects including a Health Education England-funded project "Barriers to success in nursing" and a Vice Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship award-winning project "Bridging the divide: empowering marginalised student voices through reverse mentoring".
I have been a nursing academic since 2010, teaching postgraduate, CPD, and pre-registration courses. My teaching has focused on the development of theoretical and clinical skills for nursing and healthcare practice.
In addition to my strategic role, I lecture in research methods, inclusive pedagogies, and clinical skills for practice and teach Master of Education. I also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student dissertations.

Interests
My research is focused on inclusive learning, accessibility, and student support and success.
I can offer support to undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking projects in many areas of education, nursing, and healthcare.
Research
I am a Doctoral student undertaking research that aims to explore reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities and evaluate innovative assessment strategies.
I am currently undertaking the following pedagogic research projects:
