About Kate Snowdon
I am a lecturer of Paramedic Science in the Paramedic and Professional Practice team. I am a registered paramedic with the HCPC with multiple years of clinical experience working in the North East.
Teaching and supervision
I am currently module lead for PARA102, Foundations of Paramedic Practice. In which we explore the core non-technical skills required for delivering excellent and safe care. With a particular focus on communication, resilience and professionalism.
Prior to this I was previously the module lead for AHP104, Communication, Empathy and Understanding in health.
I also support with the delivery of practical skills sessions for PARA103, Clinical Assessment and Management in Paramedic Practice.
Interests
My teaching interests include enhancing communication strategies in clinical practice, such as conflict negotiation and resolution, clinical consultations, interpersonal skills and team dynamics as well as delivering bad news. I also have a keen interest in delivering mental health education, both within a patient and staff context.
Research
My research to date has focused on improving paramedic practice and education, with particular interests in student wellbeing and development, clinical competence, human factors, and innovation in prehospital care.
Across these areas, a developing theme is the influence of communication, relationships and the experiences of both clinicians and patients on the delivery of care.
I aim to further develop research exploring communication, professional identity, trust and non-technical skills within paramedic practice, with a particular focus on how these factors influence patient and student experiences.
