About Katie Hinchliffe
I am a qualified paediatric nurse with 20 years of experience working in hospital trusts across the north-east. I have cared for children in both acute admission wards and the regional paediatric renal and gastro ward at the Great North Children's Hospital.
Before joining the University, I worked at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust as a Practice Placement Facilitator, supporting students and their supervisors/assessors while on placement.
Teaching and supervision
I am the programme lead for BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice coordinating student journeys across the three years of the programme and leading on field specific programme content.
I teach across all three years of BSc (Hons) Children's and Young People's Nursing Practice, and in to core teaching sessions for Adult and Mental Health Nursing students in 1st year.
I originally joined the University as a Senior Lecturer in Professional Practice, which saw me work with the pre-reg adult nursing team as the professionalism lead. This involved working alongside the team, ensuring professionalism is incorporated throughout the course, as well as teaching students, particularly in their practice placement module.
I continue to have a keen interest in this area and how to implement new methods of teaching professionalism across all branches of undergraduate nursing.
