About Laura Gourley
I am a Lecturer and Clinical Link Tutor for BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice and a registered adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
My background has predominantly been within medicine, where I started my career in a rotational post within A&E/Trauma/Emergency Admission Suite post qualification. I very quickly discovered my passion for teaching, education, and pastoral care, which led me down a different career route and into education and the development of practice.
I have had a wide variety of experience in different roles throughout my nursing career so far, working as a Practice Development Coordinator, Preceptorship Coordinator, and within my most recent post, a Junior Sister in elderly medicine.
Supporting students and newly qualified nurses in practice and delivering education has always been one of the elements of my role I have been passionate about. I feel lucky to be part of a learner's journey, to aid the build-up of confidence, knowledge, and skills, and to offer my support.
I have been very fortunate to have a new career with the University of Sunderland in the academic side of nursing.
