About Liz Woolley
I am a Faculty Academic Support Lead and also teach on BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work.
My primary focus is on improving student success through strategic oversight and targeted academic support. I work closely with colleagues in faculty, academics, professional services, and senior leadership to ensure that the work we do supports the wider university goals.
I am responsible for leading initiatives that address student retention and continuation, ensuring that all learners have the tools and support they need to excel. This is carried out, always, through the lens of collaboration and social justice.

I am a passionate lecturer and support teaching across BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work.
I am currently Module Lead for:
- CYW320: Equalities, Diversity and Social Justice
Interests
I welcome research that has social justice at its core. I am particularly interested in participatory research that is action focused.
Research
I completed my MA in Community and Youth Work from Newman University. My research dissertation titled “Understanding the relationship between Youth Work and Autism” was an autoethnographic piece of research that looked to understand the role of autism-specific youth work and the wider context of dis/ability in youth work. This piece of research was thereafter amended and presented in the Innovation in Youth Work publication by YMCA George Williams College.
During practice, I supported the development of participatory field-based research and evaluations covering a range of topics including: Youth Participation, Decoding the 'Anti' in Anti-Social Behaviour, Training Staff in Autism Specific Youth Work and Funding Strategies for Small Charities.
I am currently building my research and I'm excited to support the development of Sarah Martin Denham's research about Adverse Childhood Experience this academic year. I am also currently co-authoring a book chapter with Dr Ilona Buchroth, Dr Rick Bowler and Dan Connolly called 'Resistance is Not Futile' and will form a section of 'Teaching Youth Work in Universities'.
This academic year I hope to engage in participatory action research with students.
