My interests include music focused informal education and critical reflections on the new technological environment.
Teaching and supervision
I am a Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work course and teach on the following modules:

- CYW234 Organisational Management
- CYW235 Ethical Practice
- CYW321 Research for Practice
- CYW318 Education for Transformation
I also teach and supervise on the MA Childhood and Youth Studies.
Interests
I am interested in supporting students whose research interests are related to informal education, youth work and new technologies, young people and new media environments, and creative educational practices including music focused youth work. I am also particularly interested in creative and critical research methodologies.
Research
In 2011 I carried out research for Creative Partnerships, evaluating creative arts projects in primary and secondary schools throughout the North East.
In 2014 I carried out research for University of Sunderland's Centre for Applied Social Sciences on the subject of youth work and the voluntary sector with Dr Ilona Buchroth.
In 2016 I completed a PhD which involved research on new technologies and informal educational youth work. The research involved a critical exploration of the changing youth work field in the light of the radical developments in use and adoption of new technologies.
More recently I have been involved in a pilot study for Durham University as an Associate Researcher. This research explores the conditions that lead to home takeovers (Cuckooing). The research team includes: Prof Stephen MacDonald (University of Sunderland), Prof Catherine Donovan (Durham University), and Dr John Clayton (Northumbria University).
