About Mariza Spanaki
I am a dedicated individual with a diverse background spanning academia, the hospitality industry, and ongoing research in risk management. I'm currently a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance. I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to my role, guiding students on their journey to becoming proficient financial leaders.
With a solid foundation rooted in my previous experience in the dynamic landscape of the hotel industry, I transitioned into academia in 2021, with a passion for education and a commitment to advancing knowledge in my field. I am dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance principles based on real-world examples.
In parallel to my teaching responsibilities, I am actively pursuing my PhD in Risk Management, delving deeper into the complexities of innovation risk assessment and mitigation strategies. I am driven by a desire to contribute meaningful insights to the field and to acquire the necessary knowledge to address contemporary challenges in the industry.
Teaching and supervision
I teach a range of accounting and finance modules, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, within the context of corporate finance, management accounting, audit, and assurance.
Currently, I am the module leader for:
- UGB395: Corporate Governance and Ethics
- UGB238: Audit and Assurance
- DLMM12: Management Consulting
Additionally, I supervise final projects for postgraduate students.
Research
My research interests include international financial reporting, accounting standards, business ethics, financial risk management applications, and online audit. Additionally, I am also interested in the subjects of hospitality, tourism, and the financial performance of hotels.
