About Mark Widdowfield
I qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in 2006 and moved into higher education in 2011.
My current role involves education of healthcare lecturers, as Programme Leader for the Master of Education (Health Professions).
In my clinical role, I have worked in interventional radiology, cardiac catheter laboratory, and computed tomography. I also worked in medical devices, where I was involved in the design of bespoke endovascular devices for patients with complex thoracoabdominal aneurysms and dissections.
I have a previous undergraduate degree in Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool, a Postgraduate Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography, a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE from Teesside University, and a PhD from University of Sunderland. I am also a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA).
Teaching and supervision
I am currently Programme Leader for the Master of Education (Health Professions) , where I deliver sessions across a range of topics, including educational theory and approaches, curriculum design, and assessment.
I also teach across undergraduate and postgraduate courses where my focus is on research methods and I supervise a number of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
Interests
I have a keen interest in professional regulation and accreditation, reflective practice, research methods, and curriculum development.
Research
My PhD work focused on factors that influence decisions made by health professionals. I have a particular interest in Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and its application to healthcare research. I also have interests in qualitative research as a whole and a particular interest in inter-professional working, work-based learning, and evidence-based practice.
