About Michael Collins
I am a registered nurse with a primary background in critical care and critical care outreach. I have previously delivered clinical skills education across health-related courses, including pharmacy and nursing. I have also led the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship in collaboration with Spire Healthcare.
Since 2024, I have been the lead for the nursing associate courses. During my career at the University, I have developed an interest in simulation across all aspects of healthcare education.
I am part of a team of Armed Forces Champions, committed to ensuring that service personnel and their families receive the support they need as they transition into university life. Having started my career serving as an engineering technician in the Royal Navy, working on Polaris Submarines, I changed my career to retrain as a nurse. I want to ensure my experiences can help influence others who are interested in exploring a new career in healthcare.
Teaching and supervision
I am the lead for the nursing associate courses. I have an interest in human factors and their impact on patient safety. I also have substantial input into the simulation-based teaching and OSCE assessments across the Faculty.
