About Nikki Clarke
I am a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Society, teaching the Integrated Foundation Year (IFY). I am also the Deputy Programme Leader for the Education pathway within the IFY.
I graduated with BA (Hons) Film and Media in 2016 and MA Film and Cultural Studies from the University of Sunderland in 2017. My dissertation was on the representation of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) in film history.
Teaching and supervision
I teach multiple core IFY modules, and I'm the module leader for FDN012 (Essential Study Skills). I also teach some film and media modules in the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries.
Interests
My research interests include film history and contemporary cinema, LGBTQIA representation in the media, horror and science fiction film and television.
Research
I am currently undertaking my PhD at the University of Sunderland under the supervision of Dr Steve Cannon. My research takes on a comparative approach to the representations of Norman Bates and Hannibal Lecter in their multiple literary, film, and televisual texts. I also focus on the fan culture surrounding these characters and the psychology of attachment to serial killers on film.
