Dr Rawand Jarrar

I joined the School of Medicine as a postdoctoral research associate in January 2023. My work and educational experience is diverse, which shaped my current research interests.

I have a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of Jordan. After practising in hospital and community pharmacies, I wanted to broaden my knowledge of health service management and delivery. I obtained an MSc Management in Health and Social Care from Oxford Brookes University.

After spending several years working in consulting, project management and non-profit organisations in Palestine, I decided to make a transfer to academic research, while still building on my previous knowledge and experience. In 2018, I started my PhD in Population Health Sciences at Newcastle University, where I conducted a mixed-method exploration of oral anticoagulant prescribing for patients with atrial fibrillation.

I am interested in researching how healthcare decisions are made, including the decisions to seek medical care, prescribing decisions and uptake of screening services. I am currently working on a Cancer Research UK funded project that aims to improve breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening uptake among Muslim women in North East England and Scotland.
