About Robert Winter
I have been working with glass and ceramics for over 20 years. After graduating from my first degree, I worked in the glass industry for nine years, returning to clay and ceramics at the University of Sunderland 14 years ago.
I completed a Master of Arts with distinction in 2005. In 2007, I began establishing partnerships between the University of Sunderland and various Fair-Trade organisations. I have delivered workshops and undertaken University supported consultancies in India and Peru. I am regularly consulted by Potteries in Vietnam and Africa.
Teaching and supervision
I teach on the MA Visual Practice. I have taught ceramics and glass to students at all levels and have delivered workshops to the public in a diverse range of learning environments.
Research
My research and interests include teaching, community work, design/technical consultancy and creative ceramic practice.
I also work from my own studio, making thrown and sculptural porcelain. My work is centred on thrown porcelain which is often printed with enamels and decals.
Further information
Over the last eight years, I have been working with ceramics and glass producers in parts of the developing world, including Asia and South America. In partnership with fair trade and industry organisations both in the UK and abroad, I have shared my design and technical expertise with producers in India, Peru, Bolivia and Vietnam. I have visited India and Peru on a number of occasions to oversee design and technical developments and to deliver workshops covering many aspects of ceramic production and sales.
