About Dr Ruth Croxton
I joined the University in 2023. I have worked in higher education since 2000 in several institutions predominantly teaching and carrying out research in forensic science.
I have a PhD in forensic science and I'm a Professional Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, a Chartered Chemist and Chartered Scientist. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Teaching and supervision
I currently teach modules across our undergraduate psychology courses:
- PSY140 Being a Psychologist
- PSY260 Research Methods and Data Analysis in Psychology
- PSY271 Skills for Life: The Psychology of Personal and Professional Development
Research
My current research interests span pedagogy and forensic science. My primary pedagogy interest is the use of technology to enhance student learning and experience. Previous projects have included the development of pre-lab learning resources to help students prepare for laboratory practicals and the development of virtual reality crime scenes for training students and the police.
Within forensic science, my passion is latent fingermarks and studying their chemistry to derive information about the person who left them. I also research developing and evaluating new enhancement techniques and interpreting fingermark evidence at the activity level. In addition, I have interests in drug abuse, trace evidence, and interpretation of evidence.
