About Dr Saeed Fayaz
I am an academic in the area of sports injury/sports medicine with over 25 years of academic experience of teaching physiotherapy, medical science and sports medicine.
My academic and clinical background equipped me with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to be able to diagnose musculoskeletal disorders competently and to provide consultation.
My research interests are in the prevention of musculoskeletal sport related injuries.
Teaching and supervision
I teach the following modules:
- Sports Injury
- Sports Medicine
- Clinical Anatomy.
Interests
- Prevention of musculoskeletal sports injuries, in particular in the shoulder, knee and lower back regions
- Shoulder muscle imbalance and postural/alignment changes increase the risk factors of injuries, particularly in throwing and racket sports
- Knee kinetic and kinematic studies on landing patterns and the link to knee ligament injuries
- Lower back pain in sedentary life style
- Lower back injuries in sports with repetitive spinal twist, such as cricket.
Research
My postgraduate studies consisted of the following research:
- A comparison of the isokinetic strength, bipedal and unipedal standing balance, in professional, non-professional and a group of ACL-injured football players
- A retrospective sports injury survey in youth football
- A reliability study into the repeatability of the results of isokinetic dynamometry.
I also had a research fellowship at the University of Glasgow on Training our Future Trainers; an educational study about Peer Assisted Learning in the Faculty of Medicine.
Areas of expertise
My background work consisted of academic and clinical activities in different fields of physiotherapy with more focus on the musculoskeletal system (BSc and MSc in physiotherapy).
My postgraduate was in the fields of sports medicine and sports injury (MSc and PhD in sports medicine).
Further information
In my previous employment I taught theory and practice of musculoskeletal assessment to medical students at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Glasgow.
I had also the experience of teaching clinical biomechanics and kinesiology of human joints, musculoskeletal physiotherapy and clinical instruction to physiotherapy students for over a decade.
