About Shelby Penman
I have been teaching at the University of Sunderland in various capacities since 2019. I am the Programme Leader for BA (Hons) English: Creative and Professional Writing with TESOL at our TNE partner college in Greece and teach on BA (Hons) English: Creative and Professional Writing, with a background in creative writing, language, and literature.
I hold three postgraduate qualifications in education (PGCEs in Post Compulsory Education, Higher Education, and Secondary English) and have Qualified Teacher Status. I also hold a First Class BA (Hons) English degree from the University of Sunderland.
I am currently a PhD researcher. My topic is metempsychosis in David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest.
My research areas of interest are intertextuality, poetry, Irish literature, American literature, Postmodernism, Modernism, Joan Didion, Ottessa Moshfegh, and the New Sincerity movement.
