Dr Stephen Childs

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science and a PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Sunderland. My doctoral research involved targeted thiol detection and metabolic profiling in prostate cancer cell models. I have previously worked as a postdoctoral fellow studying protein-bound and novel thiol compounds present in prostate cancer cell lines.

I am a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a member and past chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry Newcastle upon Tyne and NE Coast Local Section Committee. I also organise and host the annual RSC "Top of the Bench" competition at UoS.
