About Steven Hibbitt

I am a former police officer with over 40 years of experience conducting investigations at all ranks up to Detective Superintendent. I served on the National Cadre of approved Interview Advisers providing tactical and strategic advice for the interviews of suspects, victims, and witnesses in major, high-profile, and complex investigations throughout the UK.

As an accredited Senior Investigating Officer (PIP Level 3) I investigated offences of homicide, terrorism, and organised crime. Between 2013-2023 I was seconded to the Home Office engaged in the investigation of what are now termed nationally significant investigations.

I have contributed to developing policy and practice and have authored several national position papers which are included in the approved professional practice for investigative interviewing by the College of Policing. I am the co and principle author of three editions of the Blackstone's Crime Investigators Handbook published by Oxford University Press.

In 2015 I was awarded the Queens Police Medal (QPM) for distinguished service.
