About Dr Thang Truong
I obtained my BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from Northumbria University in 2016. I commenced my research journey at the same institution and successfully completed my PhD, funded by bioMérieux, in 2019. Under the guidance of Professor Stephen Stanforth, Dr. Graeme Turnbull, and Professor John Perry from Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, my doctoral research focused on a multi-disciplinary project in organic heterocyclic chemistry. This project aimed to enhance global healthcare and combat multidrug-resistant organisms by integrating microbiology, analytical chemistry, and photochemistry. I continued to develop this project as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for three additional years.
The collaborative efforts of the team were recognised and honored with a Horizon Prize by The Royal Society of Chemistry in 2022. Additionally, I collaborated with the International Medical University Malaysia on an anticancer therapy project, which led to several published works.
In September 2022, I joined the University of Sunderland's Pharmacy department as a Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry.
