County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

This is an apprenticeship for a Biomedical Science. You will gain knowledge, understanding and skills while gaining valuable on the job experience as a Biomedical Science in a healthcare setting.

Robert Usher is a Senior Biomedical Scientist in microbiology at the University Hospital of North Durham/County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. Having his employees study the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Practice Degree Apprenticeship has benefitted his whole workforce.

"The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Practice Degree Apprenticeship has really helped us as a department and fits in with our training ethos. We're keen to develop our staff and the apprenticeship allows for that. Once an apprentice has finished their course, they're fully qualified members of staff. This is really beneficial to the service as what they've learnt during the apprenticeship can then be rolled out in training and learning to future Biomedical Scientists.

From my experience with the University and the apprentices, I'd definitely recommend the course to a future employer, as it's helped develop the team as a whole. Our apprentices have learned skills at university which they can then bring back to the workforce, enabling us to develop other staff."
