"It is a reflection of a journey that started as a student and developed into a commitment to social innovation, youth empowerment, and sustainable development"

A University of Sunderland alumnus has been named as a UK regional ambassador by the British Council.
Abedalrahman Alzghoul, who studied MBA Enterprise and Innovation at the University in 2018, has been appointed as a UK regional ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The role will see Abedalrahman help strengthen connections across the British Council’s alumni UK networks and champion the impact of UK education in their communities.
Abedalrahman said: “Being appointed as the Alumni UK Regional Ambassador for MENA is both an honour and a responsibility.
“For me personally, it is a reflection of a journey that started as a student and developed into a commitment to social innovation, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. I am proud to represent Jordan and the wider MENA region while working alongside talented alumni from around the world.”

During his time at the University, Abedalrahman helped establish and support the Arab student community and served as a representative for the master’s degree student body through the University’s Student Union, YourSU.
Abedalrahman said: “My experience at the University was truly transformative. Beyond earning my MBA in Enterprise, I had the opportunity to grow as a leader, entrepreneur, and active member of the university community.
“The university environment encouraged creativity, diversity, and innovation, which inspired me to pursue projects that create positive social impact.
“The knowledge, support, and international perspective I gained at Sunderland have continued to influence my professional journey. Since graduating, I have founded social innovation initiatives and received international recognition, including the British Council Alumni Award for Business and Innovation.
“I remain proud to be a Sunderland graduate and grateful for the opportunities and experiences that helped shape my path.”
Dr Yvonne Dixon-Todd, Head of the Sunderland Business School at the University, said: “It is brilliant to see Abedalrahman go from strength to strength after having completed his MBA at Sunderland Business School. He contributed significantly during his time here, and we are sure he will do so in his new role.”
