Course summary

This MBA is our flagship postgraduate business course, designed to shape confident, forward-thinking business leaders. The course will prepare you to lead in the modern workplace and has a strong focus on:

Leadership
International business
Digital skills
Sustainability.

We develop our modules in partnership with employers, so what you learn goes far beyond the textbook. You’ll apply your knowledge in real-world situations through group challenges and industry projects. You’ll also hear from inspiring guest speakers and attend social events.

As well as this 12-month taught MBA, we offer other flexible routes to suit your goals and experience, including:

MBA (Professional Practice), which is a 24-month MBA with a placement
MBA (with PgCert), which is a 24-month MBA with an additional Postgraduate Certificate.

After completing your MBA, you can continue your studies with a PgCert in Digital Marketing and Analytics or Human Resource Management. This allows you to build deeper expertise in areas such as data-driven marketing, people management, or learning and development. You'll complete the certificate alongside the MBA and must finish it within the two-year time frame. Please note, the modules from the certificate don’t contribute to your MBA grade.

If you’re looking to specialise, we also offer tailored MBA pathways in Human Resource Management, Finance, or Marketing. This is ideal if you have a particular career direction in mind.

As part of your experience, you’ll meet and learn from real business leaders through our employer engagement programme. Past speakers have included the Head of Sales and Marketing at Divine Chocolate and the CEO of Sunderland Football Club. These sessions are a fantastic way to explore different career options or start building your professional network.

What you'll study

Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.

Postgraduate module credits should total 180. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 180 credits.

How you'll learn

You’ll study two modules per semester and complete an individual research project. You'll access all the materials you need for your modules through our online learning environment.

Each week you'll attend seminars where you'll explore the module topics with fellow aspiring leaders and real industry practitioners. For each module, you'll submit an assessment to ensure you can progress.

On-campus entry requirements

We require a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualifications.

This course supports career acceleration for applicants with suitable academic qualifications. We'll consider all levels of practical work and work experience. This includes applications from candidates with pre-graduation or limited/no work experience post-degree if you can demonstrate that you'll benefit from this course.

You also need three passes at GCSE grade C or above. This must include maths and English language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. If you've studied for a GCSE which has a numerical grade, you'll need to achieve a grade 4 or above.
