How to spend the day

We know your time is precious and you'll want to make the most of your visit. Whether you're spending the whole day with us, or just popping in, here's what we think you should prioritise:

Our recommendations are just a guide of course – you can pick and choose activities depending on your personal priorities. Just think about timings – you may not be able to attend everything if you arrive near the end of the day.

What to ask at an Open Day

Wondering what to ask staff and students when you're here?

A good place to start could be information about your course. You could ask about:

  • Contact time: How many hours will you be in a lecture or workshop compared to independent study time?
  • Assignments: What types of assignments will you do? Essays, reports, projects, experiments, presentations and performances are all types of assignments and assessments – which ones will you do?
  • Careers: What jobs are available to you after studying this course? Are there any placements or workplace opportunities as part of the course?
  • Extracurricular activities: Are there any field trips? Can you take part in any competitions or volunteering projects?

You could also ask our friendly Student Ambassadors (look out for their orange hoodies!) about student life:

  • Sports and societies: Which clubs are available to join? How much do they cost and how often do they meet?
  • Living in Sunderland: What is it like to be a student in Sunderland? What is the cost of living and what is there to do?

Remember that there's no such thing as a silly question and we want to make sure you get all the answers you need.
