Course summary

Develop your knowledge of modern technologies in industrial engineering. Enhance your existing skills for digital design and smart manufacturing applications. Help improve the efficiency and productivity of manufacturing organisations.

Using advanced technologies, you’ll look at different ways of reaching solutions before a system or product is developed. You’ll practice successful implementation of solutions, and consider the different phases of a project. For example, design, development, and testing. The course also focuses on the development of modern solutions that address society’s needs. This will help develop your management and societal awareness skills.

You'll work with industry-standard, innovative facilities. These will enable you to practice in the type of environment you'll work in after graduation. For example, our Centre for Excellence in 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing offers you the chance to access over £1m worth of 3D printer technology. No other university in the north-east has this combination of printers to enable progression in the field of engineering. These facilities also help you to apply your creative and practical thinking. You'll work on independent assignments and with others on work-related projects.

The modules combine teaching and application of innovative problem-solving skills. You'll study real-world case studies, from which you can apply your knowledge in your future workplace.

The course will prepare you for higher levels of responsibility and leadership in the workplace and society. You'll develop transferrable skills and become adaptable to change.

Our strong links with industry provide excellent networking opportunities. These often lead to work-experience opportunities and graduate employment. There are many engineering companies in the region, with plenty of opportunities for employment.
