Course summary

This short course will cover how we age and the issues we face, including some of the common conditions seen in older people and health promotion to support ‘wellness’. Cultural bias and personal values will also be explored.

This course can be completed at both Level 6 and Level 7.

What you'll study

Topics covered include:

  • National policy, legislation and research developments in care of the older person
  • Safeguarding, mental capacity and elder abuse
  • The importance of multidisciplinary input and collaborative working
  • Promoting ‘wellness’ and providing an appropriate environment and meaningful activity
  • Supporting the carer by utilising partnership working and voluntary agencies/societies
  • Issues in ageing: osteoporosis, falls, delirium and dementia, and Parkinson’s disease
  • Telehealth.

How you'll learn

This course is delivered face-to-face on City Campus. It will take place across five sessions over 10 weeks. The course can be completed at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. You'll be assessed through a 3,500 word essay.
