Course summary

This course is ideal for those who are aspiring to become Leaders and Managers within the Health Care Sector in the future.

It may be useful for candidates to hold a band 6 post as a minimum, but this is not essential, as long as they have their managers support and Trust backing. For example, a band 6 physiotherapist who wants to progress to band 7 team lead would be a good candidate as would someone already in a band 7 who has not studied leadership and management theory before. Consideration will be given to the suitability of the candidate in relation to their career pathway.

This course always evaluates positively and there have been successful projects implemented within the Trust as a result of the course.

What you'll study

The assessment is in two parts and students must pass both parts to successfully gain the credits and pass the module.

Presentation to Panel10 minuteslocal40Group presentation on a quality improvement or innovation appropriate to their own clinical area they wish to introduce.
Project Plan using the PDSA Cycle2000wordslocal60Using the presentation and a recognised quality improvement tool, students should formulate an action plan explaining how they will implement their innovation into practice. The plan should critically appraise relevant contemporary literature on key topics such as leadership, change and team theory.

How you'll learn

The course runs as day release across a six week period, however the students are also expected to undertake further work and reading outside of the taught hours, prior to studying the specific topics each week. They also should be using some work based opportunities to improve their skills and promote their group quality improvement.
