Course summary

This module aims to equip those whose work involves managing patients who may present with conditions involving the ear to develop their knowledge and skills in this area. The module will cover anatomy and physiology of the ear and the pathophysiology of common problems affecting the ear. This module will also cover focused consultation skills, the fundamentals involved in managing patients with conditions affecting the ear, including management of obstruction with earwax (cerumen) or foreign bodies, otitis externa and otitis media and principles involved in ear irrigation.

How you'll learn

You'll be classroom-based for the three full-day taught sessions over a four-month period. You'll be expected to work with a clinical mentor in practice to further develop the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

Each day uses a variety of teaching and learning methods, including interactive workshops and will focus on a specific topic that you can then consolidate in clinical practice. Assessment will be by a portfolio and reflective essay.
