Course summary

This is a 20-credit Level 7 module.

The module follows the standards set by Royal College of Nursing for Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) education and training. It supports the NHS England programme, which helps build skills and support for the PMA role in practice. You'll cover the theoretical foundations of A-EQUIP.

You’ll learn how to lead and deliver improvements in care as the NHS continues to change. You’ll also learn how to support your colleagues and teams through restorative clinical supervision.

This is a blended multidisciplinary course designed for registered healthcare professionals. It's taught collectively to include allied health care professionals, nurses and midwives.

We'll support you to meet the standards for facilitating clinical supervision. We'll use a restorative approach. This enables you to undertake personal action for quality improvement. You'll monitor, evaluate and control quality to promote the education and development of midwives. This is through using restorative, normative and formative approaches.

How you'll learn

We deliver the course online, one day a week for 10 weeks. Teaching is via lectures, supported by directed and self-directed study.

Assessment methods include:

  • A portfolio
  • A presentation and discussion on a quality improvement initiative of your choice.

You'll complete your assessment four weeks after the module ends.
