Course summary

This Level 7 short course will develop you as a strategic leader. You'll reflect on your experiences and explore the challenges of strategic leadership, developing and enhancing your knowledge and understanding. You'll be introduced to strategy concepts and practices and explore their impact on your organisation with a view to you contributing to your organisation’s success, sustainability, resilience, and growth.

The course is designed for established organisational leaders and for those aspiring to become one. It aims to challenge thinking, encouraging you to be professional, innovative, and entrepreneurial leaders, with the ability to push businesses forward. There will be a focus on ethical and sustainable practices.

What you'll study

The course will cover:

  • The external environment, social, technological, and policy implications, eg the four pillars of sustainability – human, social, economic, and environmental
  • The extra- and intra-organisational contexts of strategic leadership, and their relationship to organisational structures
  • Strategic leadership in relation to organisational values, global citizenship, and the UN Sustainability Goals (SDGs)
  • Strategy as practice, shaping organisational vision, culture, and values
  • Organisational performance and the nature of financial and non-financial performance indicators
  • Governance processes as strategic activity
  • Stakeholder analysis and management

How you'll learn

This is a part-time, flexible, work-based course, delivered via a blended learning model. There are monthly, one-day, face-to-face, on-campus study sessions, supported by assessment supervision and our Virtual Learning Environment. It will normally be delivered at Hope Street Xchange, City Campus, but for closed and bespoke cohorts, the course can be delivered at your workplace.

The course has been developed in collaboration with employers. The content and assessment methods are designed to develop a range of conceptual and analytical skills that will enhance workplace practice in your workplace.
