You'll need your campus card to access buildings and facilities, register your attendance, borrow books or laptops, and even travel for free between campuses.
Getting your campus card
Once you have completed your online enrolment, you'll be able to access your What Next? Checklist on e:Vision. From here, you will be able to upload your photo to Selfcare. Log in with your User ID and password that we sent via email following your online enrolment.
Your photograph
You'll be required to upload a photograph for your card, which will need to fit within the guidelines. If your photo isn't suitable, it may delay your card being produced. It's important that the photograph you upload shows only you and no other person. Your photograph should show clearly your head and shoulders, with you facing the camera and nothing obscuring your face. Think of the type of photograph you upload for your passport, that's what we're after.
If your photo will not upload, this may be due to:
The file being too large – (try saving it as a JPG)
The photo is the wrong file format (it needs to be a PNG or JPEG, JPG), this may happen if you are uploading from your phone.
Once you upload a suitable photograph, a campus card will be produced automatically.
Postage
Once your campus card is printed, it will be sent to the contact address listed in e:Vision, commonly the term-time address you confirmed at enrolment. Before uploading your photo, please double-check that this address is correct. If your contact address differs from your current address, you'll need to organise a redirect or have the occupants of your contact address forward your mail so you can receive your campus card.
Alternatively, you can order a replacement card via our Online Store.
Our post is distributed via standard Royal Mail; therefore, we're unable to provide tracking IDs or advise on postage times or delays. If you have not received your campus card and it's been more than seven working days from the date you uploaded your photo, please submit an enquiry(opens in new tab) on Compass.
If you're waiting for your campus card to arrive, you can and should still attend classes.

Your campus card is your key to a variety of things, most notably accessing buildings on campus.
Your card will come pre-programmed with access to the buildings and facilities you need on campus. If you experience any problems with your card for accessing buildings, we recommend that you hold your campus card on the external reader of any building for around 20 seconds, and this should refresh your card. If you're still having problems accessing specific buildings, you may need to have your card re-programmed. If this is the case, please visit the Gateway Enquiry desks located at City Campus and St Peter's.
If you are living in Halls of Residence and are unable to access your accommodation, we recommend you visit your Halls Reception, who'll be able to support you.
You need your campus card to register your attendance at each class you attend. Tapping in is how you will receive your attendance mark for that class. Before you join your class, please tap your card against the attendance readers located around the room.
The TDS Student Portal is here to help you keep track of your attendance, allowing you to view your attendance for your overall programme as well as each module. You can also submit absences for classes through the TDS Student Portal. If you are ever in a position to be attending class and do not have your campus card, you will need to submit an absence report. Think of it as reporting the absence of your card, rather than yourself.
You can do this by logging an absence report via the Attendance Monitoring Portal. Please select the reason as “waiting for campus card”.
Your campus card makes printing quick and convenient. After sending your document to print from any on-campus PC, you can collect it from any printer across both Sunderland campuses within 24 hours. You'll need to tap your campus card at the printer to release your document.
A perk of your campus card is free travel, either using the Connect 700 service, or the University minibus operated by Team Sunderland. You'll be able to use your campus card to access free travel between campuses and around the City of Sunderland - simply show your campus card when you get on.
