Welcome to Sunderland

We're thrilled that you've chosen to study with us and join our community. This is the start of your journey, and we're here to help you get prepared, enrol, and settle in to life at university.

After you've applied

You’ve taken the first step on your student journey and applied to the University of Sunderland – congratulations!

Depending on the course you've applied for, you may need to attend an interview. Read our preparation for your interview guidance to get ahead.

You'll receive a login to myApplication, our application portal, where you can track your application, upload any relevant documents, or update your personal details. Remember to log in often so you can keep up to date with any actions you need to complete on your journey to enrolment.

Applicant events

Now that you're an applicant, you’ll also have access to attend a range of exclusive applicant events to help you learn more about your chosen course and student life. Whether it’s an on-campus event or an online activity, we encourage you to join us and start connecting with your future classmates.

Enrolment

Once you've met all the conditions of your offer, we'll send you your Confirmation Letter. This is usually sent around a month before your course start date. The letter will confirm your place on the course, give information on how to enrol, as well as hints and tips on what to expect in the weeks to come.

Enrolment is the most important part of your journey to becoming a student. Without this, you're unable to engage on your course, attend lectures or receive your User ID and campus card.

We recommend that you enrol as early as possible to ensure you're fully set up and ready to go from day one.

Induction and timetables

Timetables show when and where your classes are. During your first week, you’ll follow a personalised induction timetable. After that, your academic timetable will list all your classes.

Your induction timetable will appear in your What Next? Checklist on e:Vision after enrolment. Your academic timetable should be available during induction week once enrolment is complete.

We'll email you seven days before your course start date about the publication status of your induction timetable, so it's beneficial to complete your enrolment early.

Campus card

Your campus card is your university identification card, and you'll need it to borrow books from the library, register your attendance, and access buildings and facilities.

It's also proof that you are a student and can be used for free travel between Sunderland campuses on our Connect bus and Team Sunderland minibus services.

Enrolling early and before your course start date means you'll have your campus card ready before you set foot on campus.

Get set up

Set up your IT account

Once you've completed online enrolment, you'll receive an email with your User ID and password. This can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours.

You'll be given two logins:

  • Standard login (e.g., ab01abc) – used for platforms like Compass and your academic timetable.

  • Microsoft login (e.g., ab01abc@student.sunderland.ac.uk) – used for Canvas and Office 365 services like email, OneDrive and Word.

If you start but don’t finish enrolment, remember to log back into myApplication using your new User ID and password – not your original myApplication details.

Once you've completed your IT set-up, you'll be able to log in to SharePoint to access support services, key information, contact details and much more.
