Prepare for a role as a healthcare science practitioner in NHS audiology. Study the underpinning knowledge required while developing clinical skills in the assessment, management, and therapeutic rehabilitation of patients with hearing and associated disorders.
The BSc (Hons) Audiology degree will prepare you for a role as a healthcare science practitioner in NHS audiology. You'll study the underpinning knowledge required while developing clinical skills in the workplace in the assessment, management, and therapeutic rehabilitation of patients with hearing and associated disorders.
The taught component of this course is designed to be delivered predominantly online, with a one week block attendance required at the University's City Campus each semester.
In addition to the taught component of this course, you'll be required to complete a mandatory integrated clinical placement. This placement will be a minimum of 50 weeks, across the three years of the course in an audiology department.
The course is accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science and follows the Practitioner Training Programme. There is significant demand for audiologists, and upon graduation you'll be eligible to register with the Academy of Healthcare Science and practise within NHS departments.
The course integrates traditional lectures, interactive laboratory and simulation practical's, seminars, and workshops, including verbal presentations and posters, group work, case-based learning, directed learning, and research project supervision. Audiological competency development is primarily delivered via an integrated clinical placement within an approved NHS training department.
You'll be assessed using a combination of formative and summative assessments throughout the course. Assessment methods include exams, assignments, essays, and presentations. You'll also be assessed by the submission of clinical competency logbooks, which include evidence collected as part of your mandatory audiology clinical placements.

We would require successful completion of an Access to Higher Education course that is accredited by the Quality Assurance Agency. We would also require a minimum of grade C in GCSE in Mathematics and English Language or the equivalent as part of your course.
If English is your second language, we require a minimum of IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.
Shortlisted applicants will participate in a selection interview, which will be conducted by a panel with members from the University of Sunderland, NHS based Audiology Head of Service/Training Lead, and the Patient Carer and Public Involvement participant (PCPI) group.
If you are successful at the interview stage, you'll be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, along with an Occupational Health Check.
The annual, full-time fee for this course is:
*Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2026/27 will be £9,535. You will pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.
