Course summary

The BA (Hons) Screen Performance course offers hands-on, professional training in key areas such as multi-camera acting and directing, scriptwriting, production skills, and multi-platform performance.

Blending theory with practice, the degree gives you the opportunity to work in our fully equipped TV studios using industry standard sets and equipment. You’ll be supported by experienced professionals who are active in media and performance, and collaborate with a diverse community of actors, directors, agents, and independent film makers – building your creative network from day one.

We strongly encourage you to gain relevant industry experience during your studies and we have strong links with leading organisations like the BBC and ITV. You’ll have the unique opportunity to gain production experience with Fulwell 73 and build a portfolio of work to showcase your talent to future employers.

You'll also benefit from guest lectures, workshops, and masterclasses led by industry experts, giving you valuable insights and practical knowledge that connect directly to your career goals.

Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll be eligible for Spotlight adult performer membership and equipped with the skills, experience, and confidence to pursue a successful career in film and television.

What you'll study

Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some of these options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific required modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.

Undergraduate module credits should total 120 credits per academic year. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 120 credits.

How you'll learn

Alongside your practical work, teaching methods include lectures, demonstrations, workshops, seminars, screenings, group and individual projects, and independent learning. The course has been designed to include a number of employability initiatives and links to industry, which are embedded throughout.

In the first two years, you’ll develop core skills in screen performance. The course culminates in a major screen project that supports your individual preference and/or career interests.

You'll be assessed in a variety of different forms, with learning outputs mirroring industry outputs in terms of showreels, audition and on-set standards and etiquette, video essays, and adverts, as well as developing essay writing, research, and presentation skills.

Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2026/27 will be £9,535. You'll pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.
