Course summary

This course develops advanced skills in electronic and electrical engineering. You’ll gain practical experience using our state-of-the-art facilities, applying project-oriented and design-based learning techniques to solve real problems. The course also explores sustainable solutions to the technological challenges faced by modern society.

Topics include:

  • Electrical and electronic principles and design
  • Automation, control, and instrumentation

You’ll learn from academics with industry knowledge, who enhance teaching and support through design-based learning and assessment in pioneering engineering facilities.

As part of your studies, you’re encouraged to apply for one year placement between your second and final year. Past students have secured paid placements with leading companies such as Jaguar, Nissan, GlaxoSmithKline, Delphi Powertrain Systems, and Sellafield Nuclear Power Station.

What you'll study

Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some of these options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific required modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.

Undergraduate module credits should total 120 credits per academic year. If optional modules are available alongside core modules on your course, you should choose an amount that totals 120 credits.

How you'll learn

Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, seminars, and laboratory sessions. We encourage you to develop independent study skills as well as work with other students on group projects.

As well as assessments that count towards your degree, there are ongoing opportunities for feedback and consolidating your learning.

Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2026/27 will be £9,535. You'll pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.
