Suraj Acharya

Suraj is the Students’ Union President at the University of Sunderland in London (UoSiL) Students’ Union. Suraj had initially studied for his bachelor’s degree from the partnership college of the University of Sunderland in Nepal, before attending UoSiL from 2025. In 2025, he was elected Students’ Union President and has paused his studies to take on this role. 

Suraj commented: “When I arrived at the University, I noticed that the London campus was home to a large body of international students who were struggling with adapting to cultural differences in every field, such as the UK Education system, food culture, and language differences. After witnessing this, I realised that I needed to run for the election to help support and provide a voice for the students in London. As the elected officer, I feel passionately about the student experience at the University of Sunderland in London and am eager to enhance academic experience as well as other factors contributing to their student journey. I feel this can be achieved by building quality stakeholder relationships with students, University and SU staff, as well as external stakeholders.”

Suraj was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2025.
