About Dr Alicja Rogusz
I was born and grew up in Poland. In 2009, I completed an integrated MSc degree in Animal Science at the University of Agriculture in Kraków, Poland. I began training as a student nurse in 2012 at Northumbria University. Since qualifying in 2014 with a PGDip in Adult Nursing, I worked in the gynaecology ward at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne for the next three years. During this time, I also completed an MSc in Practice Development at Northumbria University in 2015.
In 2017, I moved into the field of health research as a Clinical Research Nurse at the NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria, where I was a member of the primary care clinical delivery team. I joined the University of Sunderland in October 2021 as a Lecturer in Continuing Professional Development. I am now a Senior Lecturer in Post Registration Nursing and Deputy Programme Lead for the MSc in Nursing.
In 2022, I gained a PGCE in Higher Education and was awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. As a member of the University of Sunderland Ethics Group, I review ethical applications for student and staff research projects. I completed my research degree (PhD) in 2022. My qualitative study on the lived experience of people with thyroid cancer was funded by Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust and hosted by Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The results were disseminated at the World Congress of Thyroid Cancer in London in 2023, where I was also a panel member in a discussion titled “Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Thyroid Cancer.”
Alongside my academic role, I am currently undertaking an MSc in Applied Statistics in Health, which I expect to complete in 2027. This training supports the development of advanced quantitative research and statistical analysis skills to strengthen interdisciplinary health research and evidence-based practice. I am a fellow of Royal Statistical Society.
