About Amanda Lee
I am a Lecturer in CPD and International Nursing, within the school of Nursing and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing. In this position, I teach across a range of programmes including the PGCE Health Professions, BSc (Hons) Nursing (Top Up), on campus and online, and the MSc Nursing programmes, on campus and online.
In addition to my academic role, I am also a co-chair of the Family Staff Network, supporting all members of staff who care for children, which feeds into the wider Equality, Diversity and Inclusion staff network.
I completed my BA (Hons) Sociology at Queen’s University Belfast, going on to complete a PGCE Primary Education at Northumbria University, gaining Qualified Teacher status. Throughout this, and over ten years of teaching experience of teaching across primary, secondary, and tertiary education settings, I have developed a passion for tackling educational inequalities. I completed the MSc Inequality and Society at the University of Sunderland where I conducted primary research into the experiences of LGBTQ+ teachers in schools in the UK and the PGCE Health Professions to further develop my pedagogical awareness within Higher Education and health-based education.

Interests
My teaching interests include equality, diversity and inclusion in healthcare education; incorporating lived experience within healthcare and education; and advancing pedagogical practice.
Research
I have previously conducted primary research into the educational experiences of pre-registration nursing students exploring barriers to success and strategies to enhance retention.
I have also explored the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ teachers in the UK. This focused on the decision-making process behind expressing their gender or sexual identity in school and the influence of institutional heteronormativity, level of experience, and policy.
Further information
I am a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status in the UK and an Associate Fellow of AdvanceHE.
