About Dr Amy Laws
I graduated with a first-class LLB from the University in 2015, before completing an LLM in Criminal Law and Procedure, in which I was awarded a Distinction.
I successfully defended my PhD thesis at VIVA in 2024. My PhD provided a critical evaluation of the counter-terrorism approaches and de-radicalisation strategies used in England and Wales, Canada, and New Zealand.
I have been teaching at the University since 2016.
Teaching and supervision
I teach LLB (Hons) Law and LLM Law. I am module leader for:
- Practical Contract Law (LAW172)
- Public Law and the Law of the European Union (LAW174)
- Practical Tort Law (LAW271)
- Counter-Terrorism Law (LAW372)
I also supervise a number of dissertations and research projects on the LLB and the LLM, mainly relating to counter-terrorism law, but also including constitutional law and human rights.
Interests
I am able to supervise projects relating to my teaching as well as my own research. This includes counter-terrorism, constitutional law and human rights.
Research
My research focuses on the UK's counter-terrorism response, particularly in relation to current issues centred around radicalisation and PREVENT.
