About Andy Turton
Prior to working in higher education, I held various roles and positions in the retail and energy sectors. Since joining the University in 2010, I have developed and taught a range of accounting and finance-based modules that are embedded across different courses.
I am Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance (with Professional Exemptions), a role that has overarching responsibility for the successful delivery and evolution of course module content.
Teaching and supervision
I teach a range of accounting and finance-based modules at undergraduate level. I am module leader for:
- MGT1004 Introductory Management and Financial Accounting
- MGT2005 Business Finance and Risk Management
- MGT204 Corporate Finance and Portfolio Valuation
- UGB392 Financial Management
- MGT3007 Financial Management (Professional)
I also act in a supervisory capacity to students studying both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in the Business School.
Research
I have research interests within the area of capital structure and how it impacts upon firm performance from a developed and developing capital market perspective. Additional research interests are within the area of gaming and simulation based approaches to teaching and how this impacts upon student engagement and knowledge retention.
