About Emma Little

I joined the Primary Initial Teacher Training team here at the University as a Lecturer in Primary Education in 2020 and became a Senior Lecturer in 2023. Prior to this, I was an Academic Tutor for the International Independent Distance Learning team.

I have previously worked in a large FE college as an Early Years Lecturer and have a wealth of teaching experience related to Early Years Education as well as specialist qualifications. I have also been awarded a Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy.

Prior to this, I was a primary school teacher having qualified in 2001, working with children across the entire primary age range but specialising in Early Years. During this time, I was an advocate for family learning and outdoor education including Forest School and have experienced a range of curriculums.

In my current role, I am the Early Years Foundation Stage Lead for the primary programmes of study, Year 2 Lead for BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS and Module Leader for PRI218 Curriculum Studies 2 and PRI217 School Experience 2.

Throughout my career, I have gained a wealth of experience in supporting and mentoring both trainee teachers and early career teachers within the Primary age range, and as a Placement Assessor for Early Years Educators.

Outside of the University, I am Executive Group Chair in Scouting which allows me to support children within my local community, while utilising my skills in a voluntary capacity.

I am passionate about Early Years and high-quality educational provision and I am keen to share my experience and expertise.

I am also a Wellbeing Champion and a Mental Health First Aider.
