Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Production/Sustainability Champion

About Gary Stubbs

I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and a Senior Lecturer with extensive experience in both academia and the film industry.

I have supervised national and international award-winning student filmmakers and oversee the faculty’s academic partnerships with British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Albert and Avid Technology, ensuring students engage with industry-leading sustainability initiatives and cutting-edge post-production tools.

I maintain strong industry networks and integrate real-world production practices into the curriculum. My recent experience includes working at senior levels on some of the largest drama productions filmed in the UK, collaborating with leading industry professionals. I have extensive experience working with multiple Virtual Production (VP) volumes across the UK, with hands-on expertise in planning, scheduling, and directing within these high-tech studio environments. I have a clear understanding of the creative and logistical challenges of LED volume stages, real-time rendering, and in-camera visual effects.

As a passionate advocate for sustainability in film and television, I work closely with BAFTA Albert to promote environmentally responsible production practices. I also deliver Albert Grad certification, equipping the next generation of filmmakers with the knowledge and tools to create sustainable productions. I am committed to integrating sustainability principles into both industry workflows and academic teaching, encouraging ways to reduce waste, energy consumption, and carbon emissions across all stages of production.
