About Iain Aberdeen
I have over two decades of coaching experience at international level across a range of sports including pistol shooting, fencing, and modern pentathlon.
I specialise in sports coaching, talent identification, performance sport, and coaching psychology and have worked with National Governing Bodies within their development, talent, and performance tiers.
I completed the UK Sport High Performance Coach Apprenticeship certification as well as the UK Coaching Performance Foundations programme.
I'm a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society and I'm currently going through the Chartered Psychologist process.
Teaching and supervision
I teach on the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education course and on the following modules:
- Psychological Skills Training (Level 7)
- Sports Psychology (Level 6)
- Adaptive Physical Activity (Level 6)
- Physical Education – Theory and Practice (Level 5)
- Talent Discovery and Performance (Level 5).
Research
I have a keen interest in psychological skills for athletes and coaches and my MSc research explored the physical reactions to psychological pressure in elite athletes.
I am also interested in coaching pedagogy, coach education, coaching psychology, and athlete development.
