About Judith Mills
I'm a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education. Prior to this, I worked as a primary school teacher across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
In my teaching career, I've worked in a range of different primary schools from areas with high levels of social deprivation to small, rural schools with less than 50 pupils, in which I taught mixed aged classes of EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2.
I've held many areas of responsibility including literacy; humanities; PE; Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship (PSHE and C); and Health and Safety to name a few! I've led Early Years and Key Stage 1 within two different schools and I was on the school governing body as a Teacher Governor.
I teach across primary education and currently lead the BA (Hons) Primary and SEND Education with QTS course. I lead English and PE across the primary courses where I also teach across different modules and mentor trainees in school placements as a University Based Mentor.
I relish mentoring trainees in school and want to enable more students to go forward and gain amazing experiences in the teaching profession and to be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Research
As part of my masters, I undertook a Major Independent Study into the effectiveness of observational assessment within Early Years Settings. I intend to undertake further research in this area.
Further information
I began my career in education as a nursery nurse after studying for my NNEB when I left school and went on to work as a teaching assistant. During this time, I studied A Levels at night school before embarking on my BA (Hons) Primary Education degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I took up further studies while working full-time as a class teacher to complete my master's in Early Years at Leeds Metropolitan University.
The varied range of primary schools that I've been lucky enough to teach in have come with their rewards and challenges. This is my main reason for wanting to develop a career in Initial Teacher Training.
