About Dr Lewis Bingle
I have over two decades of experience as a molecular microbiologist and a wide range of interests, especially in the areas of causation (pathogenicity) and treatment (antimicrobial drugs and antibiotic resistance) of infectious disease.
Teaching and supervision
I teach on BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and some postgraduate courses mainly in the areas of microbiology or molecular biology.
Interests
My main research interests at the moment are the discovery of novel antimicrobial natural products from bacteria and transcriptional regulation of host interaction functions in gram-negative bacteria.
I am able to supervise research in other areas of molecular microbiology – please contact me to discuss.
Research
I have worked on a wide-range of topics in microbiology over the years mostly focusing on molecular genetics. My main current research interests are:
- Discovery of novel antimicrobial natural products from bacteria using a combination of lab-based microbiology and genomics approaches
- Transcriptional regulation of host interaction functions in Gram-negative bacteria (mainly E. coli).
