About Lindsay Parkin

I am an Academic Practitioner and Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice and Therapeutics in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

I graduated with an MPharm degree from The UCL School of Pharmacy in 2005 before undertaking my pre-registration year at a local independent community pharmacy and qualifying as a pharmacist in 2006. On qualifying, I started my career as a rotational band 6 in secondary care at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust before becoming a Specialist Pharmacist in Emergency and Critical Care. While working there I completed my Clinical Diploma in Pharmacy Practice with Queen's University Belfast, and obtained my Independent Prescribing Qualification from the University of Sunderland in 2010.

I joined the University from full-time clinical practice in December 2013 with my role being split between teaching, clinical practice, and research.

I have been fortunate to gain a secondment as a Research Fellow for Hospital Pharmacy Practice at the Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute. This enables me to develop research skills and aligns with my clinical and research interests in bariatric surgery and metabolic medicine.

I hold an honorary contract with South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust where I work one day per week supporting the bariatric pre-assessment clinics, working alongside the pre-assessment team. In my role at the hospital I am also involved with audit work and I am part of the research and audit team within the Pharmacy department.

I contribute to both the undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy courses in terms of material development and delivery as well as other courses such as non-medical prescribing.
