Associate Lecturer
I am a former Police Inspector and started my professional career with the Metropolitan Police Service in 1991 before moving to Northumbria Police in 1996.
I served for over 27 years, and this included operational experience in Uniform Policing, Special Branch, CID, Community Policing, and Serious and Organised Criminality. This also included a secondment to the Middle East where I taught Iraqi police officers the fundamentals of community policing on behalf of HM Government.
In 2013 I became a full-time official with the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) with a remit on misconduct matters. I was subsequently elected to the National Board of the PFEW which represents the views of over 120,000 serving police officers while giving advice and guidance on the strategic direction of the organisation. Specifically, I was the secretary of the health and safety sub-committee dealing with issues such as body armour and menopause.
On retiring from the police, I was seconded to the European Union Advisory Mission (Ukraine) where I lectured on leadership and community policing. In addition, I am a former lay-panel member for the Employment Tribunals (Scotland) within the UK Courts and Tribunals Service.
I completed my original BA (Honours) at Sunderland Polytechnic in 1990 and have postgraduate qualifications in Criminal Justice (Portsmouth University), Law (Northumbria University), Education (University of Sunderland) and Employment Law (Northumbria University).
