Senior Lecturer - Accelerated IFY Programme Leader

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and Society. My Degree is in Business Computing and my postgraduate degree is in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an accredited Workplace Mediator and a member of the Staff Mentoring Scheme. My research interests are in student engagement, student support and IT/eLearning.

I am a member of the Combined Subjects Programme/Customised Awards Scheme (CSP/CAS) team who are responsible for CSP/CAS, the Study Abroad and Exchange Scheme (SA/EX) and the Integrated Foundation Year (IFY).  Prior to joining the CSP/CAS team, I taught on computing modules for the School of Computing and also on the IFP (International Foundation Programme).

I am the programme leader for the accelerated (December intake) Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) and module leader for FND012 Essential Study Skills (core module for IFY). I am the School of Social Sciences VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) champion and support staff with the development of their programme and module spaces on Canvas.

Teaching and supervision

    • I am the Module Leader for, and teach on, FDN012 Essential Study Skills.  I also supervise Stage 3 projects under LLS modules.

Research interests for potential research students

I am particularly interested in student support and engagement, IT and eLearning.

Research

I am particularly interested in student support and engagement, IT and eLearning. Working in partnership with current students I developed a Student Led Induction Event, ‘CSP/CAS Survival’, which ran annually in Fresher’s Week alongside the CSP/CAS team induction activities. The Survival event was led by current CSP/CAS student volunteers, their aim being to support new students in their transition to Higher Education and to welcome them to the CSP/CAS family.
