Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry

I started teaching in the Faculty of Health, Sciences and Wellbeing in 2017, having previously graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science and a PhD in Bioanalytical Chemistry from the University of Sunderland. My doctoral research involved targeted thiol detection and metabolic profiling in prostate cancer cell models. I have previously worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow studying protein-bound and novel thiol compounds present in prostate cancer cell lines. In 2019 I completed a post graduate certificate on academic practice (PgCaP).

I am a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Pharmaceutical Scientist in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (SRPharmS), and Chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry Newcastle Upon Tyne and NE Coast Local Section Committee (RSC NuTNEC).

I also coordinate the local heat of the RSC School's Analyst Competition; held annually at the University which welcomes teams of school students to compete to solve diverse analytical problems.

Teaching and supervision

I teach aspects of pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry across MPharm PharmacyBSc Biopharmaceutical ScienceBSc Cosmetic Science, and MSc Drug Discovery and Development.

I am the Module Leader for BSc Biopharmaceutical and BSc Cosmetic Science Level 4 Chemistry (BPS110 , CSC101). I also coordinate chemistry at Level 5 on MPharm Pharmacy.
