Associate Tutor in Public Health

I am an Associate Tutor in Public Health. With a clinical foundation in optometry and extensive experience in public health, my commitment to public health led me to pursue an MSc and to attain the globally recognised PRINCE2 project management practitioner certification.

I play a pivotal role in the department, contributing to the delivery of high quality teaching in both the MSc and BSc apprenticeship programmes.

I provide valuable academic and pastoral support to students, oversee student research projects, and assess coursework. My multifaceted expertise enriches the educational experience for students under my guidance.

Teaching and supervision

I conduct End-Point Assessment preparation sessions tailored for public health BSc apprenticeship students, aiding them in their journey towards registration with the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR). I collaboratively supervise NHS staff members on the health inequalities programme, enabling them to conduct impactful research targeted at narrowing the gap in health inequalities within the Trust.

I also oversee MSc dissertation projects spanning qualitative, quantitative and systematic review research methodologies, ensuring students receive comprehensive guidance throughout their academic endeavours.

Moreover, I have delivered teachings on various critical public health topics including health research methods, alcohol and substance misuse, physical activity and diet.

My specialty involves implementation of evidence-based practices aimed at enhancing individual and community health. My focus is directed towards empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health through lifestyle modifications and health education. Moreover, my deepest commitment lies in addressing health inequalities. The importance of identifying and mitigating the social, economic and environmental factors that contribute to disparities in health outcome cannot be over-emphasised.

Through research and education, I work towards bringing to light the issues surrounding health disparities. This enables me contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at improving health outcomes and promote health equity among diverse populations.
